ZINASU remembers Samora Michael.

The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) joins the entire human family in
remembering and celebrating the life of the late Samora Moïsés Machel who
was assassinated on the 19th of October 1986.

Cde Machel was the commander of the Mozambican revolutionary army and the first legitimate president of Mozambican, a celebrated socialist whose quest for equality and justice led to his
untimely death at the hand of the rogue apartheid South African, governmentas well as other covert and barbaric players. He died from a so called plane crash in South Africa’s Libombo Mountains near Mbuzini on the sad day of October 19 1986.Such vague political explanations have been given to unlock the assassination as an accident, but nothing further separates this gruesome act of cowardice from a man made
eventuality.

The terrain of Africa’s liberation struggle as well as its aftermath is littered with a number of well planned and executed elimination of revolutionary leadership through external forces as well as struggles within struggles. The world remembers the assassination of PatrisLumumba,Republic of Congo’s first legitimate president in the same somber sense as Samora Machel. Equally the world should recall the brutal assassination of Steve Biko murdered for one reason; justice for all. These assassinations and other covert activities can only be explained as attempts to cripple African development designed to keep Africa as a subordinate in human progress.

We also note with concern attempts by some African banana type of politicians who
invokes the memory of Machel’s heroism as a means to sustain and mastermind their illegitimacy, so as we remember the life of Samora we must stand true to the dictates of human liberty, his wishes and aspirations. We thus take this day as an opportunity to redefine
Africa’s true heroism now tainted and vaguely expressed in ZANU-PF mantras.

Samora’s revolutionary Pan-Africa mindset deeply rooted in a
socialism viewed the independence of Mozambique alone as inadequate, but the
need for a regional and continental liberty a trait which saw him supporting the neighboring struggles for emancipation, Zimbabwe and Azania as examples. Cooperation between Zimbabwe’s and FRELIMO serves to prove Machel’s commitment towards freeing Zimbabwe as well as other members of the human family sadly crippled by the chains of oppression and injustice.

ZINASU totaly dismiss attempts to label Michel’s assassination an accident as an old colonial ploy crafted by psuedo politicians of little ability with no reflection at all.We therefore demand a
dismissal of the doctored Margo Commission as an apartheid South Africa’s attempt as to conceal the truth and coax justice.

ZINASU demands that those responsible be brought to book.
