Manchester United chief sees IPO as ‘potential opportunity’
Manchester United chief executive David Gill has broken his silence on the proposed listing of the football club, by saying it ‘is a potential opportunity’ to strengthen the club’s finances.
Mr Gill also said that the Glazer family, who owns the club, is being advised on market conditions, London’s Sunday Telegraph reported.
He did not directly identify Singapore as the initial public offering (IPO) destination but the Glazer family has already chosen to list here in a potential US$1 billion (S$1.3 billion) share offering. The family obtained approval to list from the Singapore Exchange last month, but market uncertainty had pushed back a proposed October listing.
‘It is not officially on hold but the owners will be taking appropriate advice from the advisers and determining what the markets are telling us,’ Mr Gill said on a trip to Senegal with United Nations Children’s Fund which has a partnership with the club.
